Since its merger with the French Crown, Breton politicians have occupied an intermediary position between local and Parisian interests. This investigation questions the endurance of this model of intermediation by analyzing their presence and influence in France central political institutions. To do so, the paper asesses the trajectory of senior and junior ministers from Brittany between 1959 and 2020. The study demonstrates that Brittany has been slightly underrepresented under the Fifth Republic, but that this trend stopped in the early-1990s. Since then, Brittany has converted into a place of production of cabinet ministers for both left and right-wing governments. The traditional specialization of Breton elites in ministerial areas like fishing, agriculture and overseas territories has given place to a new generation of regional leaders with important portfolios. Moreover, Breton ministers aim to maintain their local strongholds and generally use their national position to reinforce their grip on local affairs.
