Science dynamics and research systems: The role of research in meeting societal challenges

Before you submit your article to a journal, present it at the 2013 Eu-SPRI Early Career Researcher Conference and gain valuable and friendly advice from the top researchers of our field. 

The CSIC Institute of Public Goods and Policies and Eu-SPRI would like to invite you to the Early Career Research Conference ?Science dynamics and research systems: The role of research in meeting societal challenges? that will be held in Madrid on 8-9 April 2013. This conference will be held on the days preceding the 2013 Conference of the EU?SPRI Forum.

The Conference aims to allow late-stage PhD students and Early Career post docs the opportunity to present their research in front of peers and discuss its potential with leading researchers in the field.  The conference will be attended by leading researchers in the field who will chair sessions and discuss the presentations, providing invaluable advice to early career researchers about the future direction of the research, as well as possible collaboration opportunities.

If you are interested in attending a conference that allows you the opportunity of one-on-one discussions with these academics, as well as a wealth of networking opportunities with young and established researchers, we encourage you to submit an abstract to this conference.

CALL FOR ABSTRACTS

We welcome papers encompassing a variety of topics discussing how research systems contribute to societal challenges. We also welcome papers that offer new perspectives and methodological approaches.

Extended paper abstracts should be no more than 1,500 words in length and specify the objective of the paper, its approach and results. Full?length papers, no more than 5000 words long, are to be submitted the week prior to the conference. Further details regarding the submission of full papers will be provided to successful authors on acceptance. All documents are to be submitted in DOC/DOCX or PDF format to the conference.

These perspectives may include papers related to:

·         The evaluation process (Measuring excellence in research through bibliometric, patent and alternative metrics);

·         Scientific careers (Careers, mobility of the scientific workforce);

·         Commercial interests and entrepreneurship in science (Academic inventors and technology transfer);

·         The societal impact of research (Public perception and the role of citizen participation in research including the role of research in informing policy);

·         Designing efficient research systems and organisations (New models of research organisations and the challenges associated with reforming university and public sector research);

·         Difficulties in translating research for societal challenges (Management of risks and translation of research for valorisation practices), and more.

CALENDAR

The key dates for the event are:

·         Deadline for extended abstracts: 30th, January 2013

·         Notice of acceptance: February 15th 2013

·         Provisional draft program: February 15th 2013

·         Deadline for full papers: 15th. March 2013

DATES AND VENUE

The conference will be organised over two complete days (8-9 April) prior to the EU SPRI Forum Annual Conference which starts at 13:00 on April 10th.

The venue of the Conference will be the CSIC Centre for Social and Human Sciences (CCHS) in Madrid.

CONFERENCE FEES

The fee for the conference is ? 200 (euros). The conference fee covers conference materials, refreshments and meals throughout the event as well as accommodation for 2 nights during the event.
