Postdoctoral Research Position in Economics or Political Science

The Kiel Institute for the World Economy (IfW) offers a Postdoctoral Research Position in Economics or Political Science

Inter-disciplinary research will be conducted in the project Integration, Institutions, and Development within the research area Poverty Reduction, Equity and Development. The project analyzes institutional and economic development in the context of regional and global integration of emerging, transition, and developing countries. The focus is on relevant actors as well as on economic relations from both an economic and a political perspective.

The successful applicants will

- develop the research agenda and third-party funding in this project, especially on institutional and developmental aspects of European Integration and European Neighbourhood Policy (ENP), and

- contribute to an EU-financed project on Lessons from CEECs – Transformation of Socio-Economic Institutions.

Applicants interested in this inter-disciplinary research should hold a Ph.D. (or be close to its completion) in Economics or Political Sciences (related Social Sciences or Econometrics with a proven interest in the topic are possible). They should have an excellent knowledge in relevant quantitative empirical methods, an excellent academic record, and must have a demonstrated potential to publish in refereed journals of international standing. Experience in funding applications and a strong research network would be an asset.

The IfW is interested in developing a career perspective with the successful candidate. The position is initially funded for 18 person-months and could be organized as a full-time position (weekly workload of 38.70 hours) or part-time position (e.g. 3/4 for two years with flexible (yearly) working time-schemes). Applicants wishing to keep complementary affiliations are welcome. Applicants also have the possibility to negotiate an additional (1/4) teaching position at the Department of Political Science at the University of Kiel. The salary is based on the German public service pay scale and the successful candidate would receive grade EG 14 TV-L.
