Job vacancy: Associate Professor in the field of "Constitution and Politics of Gender Relations" (University of Muenster)

The Institute of Political Science (IfPol) in the Faculty of Educational and Social Sciences at the University of Münster, Germany, is seeking to fill the following position at the earliest possible date:

W2-level professorship in Political Science with a focus on the “Constitution and Politics of Gender Relations”

The professorship should cover the spectrum of research and teaching activities at the Institute of Political Science (IfPol) at the University of Münster (WWU) with a focus on the constitution and politics of gender relations.

We expect the candidate to demonstrate a strong commitment to research and teaching. This entails participation in the degree programmes offered at the Institute of Political Science. Furthermore, we expect the appointee to participate in research activities on such issues as diversity, intersectionality, heterogeneity, inequality or social plurality. The candidate should possess a highly distinguished, international publication profile, have procured third-party funding in the past, and possess a high level of didactic competence and experience in academic self-administration. Non-native candidates must have at least a B2 level of German language proficiency with the expectation of achieving the C1 level within the first three years of employment.

We are looking for someone who already has experience in inter- and transdisciplinary collaboration within and outside the social sciences. Ideally, the candidate’s profile should include experience with analyses of the social and political causes of diversity, intersectionality, heterogeneity, inequality or social plurality, as well as the associated issues of policy steering and formulation and/or the accompanying reflexion on societal and political power structures. The candidate should also possess in-depth expertise in the empirical and/or theoretical application of social science methods. Connectivity between the Institute’s research and teaching focuses, particularly in the areas of democracy research, would be desirable.

To be considered for this position, the candidate should hold a higher education degree in the social sciences, have particular pedagogical aptitude for university teaching, and advanced academic qualification, substantiated by the quality of their doctoral degree. The candidate should possess extensive academic experience obtained through an assistant professorship (Juniorprofessur), a habilitation (postdoctoral qualification), as a member of the academic staff of a university or non-university research institute, or in a research position in business, industry, administration or another relevant field in Germany or abroad.

The Institute of Political Science is involved in the “Religion and Politics” cluster of excellence and collaborates with various University research centres, e.g. the “Center of Interdisciplinary Sustainability Research (ZIN)”. These activities are accompanied by established and ongoing collaboration in EU-, federal- and state-level disciplinary and interdisciplinary research programmes, as well as participation in interdisciplinary research endeavours, such as a research network on European Gender Studies.
