JOB: Full Professor in Political Science, Sciences Po Grenoble

Sciences Po Grenoble is opening a Full Professorship in Political Science and invites applications for a full-time and permanent position in «comparative analysis of political and electoral attitudes and public opinion» to begin September 1, 2015The candidate must already have a tenured or tenure-track position, and a number of years of experience, as this is a full professorship.

Duties include teaching at undergraduate, postgraduate and PhD levels, supervising Master’s and Doctoral students, engaging in ongoing research and publications linked to the social science research centre PACTE (http://www.pacte-grenoble.fr/), and contributing to the interdisciplinary academic life and reputation of Sciences Po Grenoble.

The successful candidate will have demonstrated excellence in teaching (political science, political sociology, and empirical methods), and a record of international peer-reviewed publications. If the candidate is not a French native speaker, a certain degree of proficiency in the French language (equivalent to level DELF B2) and a strong willingness to be able to teach in French after three years is required. Preference will be given to candidates having the capacity to teach methodology to all levels of study.

Research activities

Research activities of the successful candidate must primarily concentrate on political attitudes, values, public opinion and the vote. The candidate must be able to analyze these questions from a comparative perspective. Competences in quantitative methods are required. A past experience in international mobility is an advantage. In the research centre PACTE, the appointed candidate will be part of the research unit «International social and political surveys».

  • a letter of application that outlines the current research activities, future research plans and teaching and supervisory experience.
  • a curriculum vitae
  • a list of publications
  • and, only when the applicant has obtained his or her PhD in France, a confirmation of their CNU qualification for habilitation or equivalent.

The selection committee will invite a shortlist of applicants for an interview and a public presentation. At this stage, the candidates will be asked to send a single-authored piece (preferably a journal article). As part of the selection process, the shortlisted candidates will present their research record publicly to the selection committee as well as the wider Sciences Po community (in English or in French). These presentations will be followed by a more specific interview (mainly in French) on their teaching experiences and their future research projects.
