The Local Organizing Committee (LOC) of the 2025 IPSA World Congress will host a roundtable discussion titled Resisting Autocratization in Polarized Societies: The Role of Academia on 13 July 2025. Sponsored by Seoul National University and chaired by LOC Co-Chair Euiyoung Kim, this high-level roundtable will bring together distinguished leaders from higher education institutions and political science associations worldwide.

IPSA is partnering with a local tour company to offer day tours, as well as selected pre- and post-Congress tours, for World Congress participants and accompanying persons. Details will soon be available on the Congress website.

IPSA successfully held the second phase (2025) of the third edition of its Regional Dialogues with national and regional political science associations (collective members). Between late April and early May 2025, five virtual Regional Dialogues meetings were held to foster stronger ties between IPSA and its collective members across Africa, the Americas, Asia-Oceania, and Europe.

IPSA will be present at the 2025 Congress of the Latin American Studies Association (LASA),  held in San Francisco and virtually from 23-26 May 2025. IPSA will host a panel titled Practitioner-Academic Dialogue: Bridging Theory and Practice in Political Science and Public Policy on 23 May. The session will be chaired by IPSA Executive Committee member Vanessa Elias de Oliveira, with IPSA President Pablo Oñate serving as discussant.

The 13th International Congress of Political Science, organized by the Mexican Political Science Association, will be held virtually on 4 August, followed by in-person sessions from 5 to 8 August 2025 at the Graduate Studies Unit of the National Autonomous University of Mexico in Mexico City. Azul A. Aguiar-Aguilar (2025 World Congress Program Co-Chair and IPSA EC member), Jesús Tovar Mendoza (IPSA EC member), and Carmelo Cattafi (IPSA RC-EC Liaison) will participate in the Congress. 

Carlos Pereira has been selected as the recipient of the 2025 Guillermo O'Donnell Award for Latin American Scholars. Mr. Pereira, a professor at the Getúlio Vargas Foundation, will deliver an award lecture titled Between Threat and Breakdown: Understanding Democratic Resistance in Latin America at the 28th IPSA World Congress in Seoul on 13 July 2025.

Max Gallien has been named the recipient of the 2025 APSA-IPSA Theodore J. Lowi First Book Award for his book titled Smugglers and States: Negotiating the Maghreb at Its Margins. Max Gallien is a Research Fellow at the University of Sussex's Institute of Development Studies (IDS) and a Research Lead at the International Centre for Tax and Development (ICTD).

EVENTS BY IPSA RESEARCH COMMITTEES 

IPSA's RC19 – Gender Politics and Policy and RC07 – Women and Politics in the Global South will host a pre-World Congress workshop on 12 July 2025 at Ewha Womans University in Seoul. The Contemporary Reflections & Future Agendas in Gender and Politics Workshop will feature a keynote lecture by Ki-young Shin (Ochanomizu University, Japan).

IPSA's RC07 – Women and Politics in the Global South held a webinar titled Unlocking Access: Funding Your Academic Journey on 16 April 2025. The webinar featured Kavita Ramdas (Gender Equity and Justice Advocate), Diana Chacón (Lawyer and International Development Practitioner), and Jane Sloane (Feminist and Experienced Resource Mobiliser), and was moderated by RC07 Chair Swarna Rajagopalan.

Register for the IPSA-ABU Summer School for Social Science Research Methods, which will be held from 25 August- 5 September 2025. The School offers advanced training for graduate students and academics intent on strengthening their methodological skills. It is also an excellent opportunity for participants to expand their methodological knowledge, discuss research, and forge new collaborations. The 2025 edition provides five different online courses, each spanning one week.
