DIANNE PINDERHUGHES TO LEAD THE PRESIDENT'S PLENARY AT THE IPSA WORLD CONGRESS
 
IPSA President Dianne Pinderhughes will lead the President’s Plenary session at the 2023 IPSA World Congress on 16 July 2023.
 
The plenary, titled New World A Comin…? The Political and Social Dimensions of Change and Crises Across a World without Boundaries, brings together distinguished scholars from different regions of the world.
 
Speakers will include Terri Givens, Aníbal Pérez-Liñán, Peter Anyang’ Nyong’o, Swarna Rajagopalan, Pearl T. Robinson and Marian Sawer.
 
JONI LOVENDUSKI NAMED THE RECIPIENT OF THE 2023 MATTEI DOGAN FOUNDATION AWARD
 
We are pleased to announce Joni Lovenduski as the recipient of the Prize of the Foundation Mattei Dogan. Prof. Lovenduski will present a virtual award lecture at the 2023 IPSA World Congress on 19 July.
 
Every year, the IPSA selects a scholar of high international reputation in recognition of her/his contribution to the advancement of political science, with a particular focus on recognizing outstanding scholarship on comparative studies of political elites, following a nomination by IPSA Research Committee (RC02) - Political Elites.

REGISTRATION DEADLINE EXTENDED FOR THE RESEARCH METHODS COURSES
New deadline: 30 May
 
Three short Research Methods Courses will be offered in Buenos Aires on 15 July, the day before the 2023 IPSA World Congress gets underway.
 
Taught by renowned international instructors, the following courses will provide state-of-the-art information on recent advances in research methods:
 
  • Qualitative Comparative Methods (in-person) by Prof. Dirk Berg-Schlosser;
  • Process Tracing (in-person) by Prof. Natalia Calfat;
  • Mixed Methods Research Methods and Designs (virtual, two parts) by Prof. Manfred Max Bergman.
 
THE 2023 IPSA WORLD CONGRESS TO FEATURE SPECIAL SESSIONS 
ON “BALDOSAS POR LA MEMORIA”
 
The 2023 IPSA World Congress of Political Science will feature two special sessions on the “Baldosas por la memoria”, memorial paving stones handcrafted by loosely networked activists, particularly in Buenos Aires.
 
Produced continuously since 2006 according to an informally established protocol, they memorialize “the disappeared” and others murdered under the state terrorism practiced by the former Argentinian dictatorship (1976-1983). To connect the World Congress to this unique political phenomenon, Research Committee 33-The Study of Political Science as a Discipline, has incorporated two linked “Special Sessions” into the Congress program.
 
SUCCESSFUL 141ST IPSA EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE MEETING AND ACADEMIC WORKSHOP IN DRESDEN
 
The Chair of Comparative Politics, Institute of Political Science at the Technical University of Dresden (TU Dresden) and the Hannah-Arendt Institute for Totalitarianism Studies (HAIT) organized an international workshop in collaboration with IPSA on Threats to Democracy and Resiliency of Democracy - Global Perspectives from 19-21 April 2023 in Dresden, Germany. The workshop was organized to coincide with IPSA’s 141st Executive Committee Meeting, which also took place at TU Dresden on 22-23 April.
 
The efforts and contributions of IPSA Past President Marianne Kneuer were instrumental in the successful organization and execution of the workshop. We would like to express our sincere gratitude to Prof. Dr. Kneuer and her dedicated team at TU Dresden. The international workshop brought together several IPSA Executive Committee (EC) members, prominent scholars, politicians, and journalists to discuss the challenges facing democratic systems and to explore potential solutions.
 
IPSA LECTURE AT THE 2023 IAPSS WORLD CONGRESS IN MONTREAL
 
IPSA had a strong presence at the 2023 World Congress of the International Association for Political Science Students (IAPSS), held on 15-19 May at Concordia University in Montreal, Canada. The event began with opening remarks by IAPSS President Oleksii Zahreba, Chair of the Department of Political Science at Concordia University Daniel Salée, and IPSA Executive Director Kim Fontaine-Skronski. After the words of welcome, IPSA President-Elect Pablo Oñate presented a lecture on Populism in Latin America and Europe: Similar Impact on Democracy?
 
IPSA also held a booth at the IAPSS Congress to provide information about the 2023 IPSA World Congress of Political Science as well as IPSA activities, educational programs and recent publications.
 
IPSA AT THE LASA CONGRESS
 
IPSA will be present at the Latin American Studies Association (LASA) 2023 Congress, to be held in-person in Vancouver, Canada, and virtually from 24-27 May 2023.
 
IPSA will be represented by Executive Committee member Azul A. Aguiar Aguilar, who will chair the panel on Democracy, Judicial Institutions and Organized Crime in Latin America on 26 May from 12:00 to 13:30 PDT.
 
IPSA will also have a virtual exhibition booth at the event. LASA delegates will learn about IPSA activities, recent publications, and the 2023 IPSA World Congress of Political Science in Buenos Aires. Haluk Dag, Communication and Promotion Coordinator, will meet with delegates through the following virtual Q&A sessions:
 
  • 24 May 2023, 11:00 to 12:00 PDT (14:00:15:00 EDT)
  • 26 May 2023, 10:00 to 11:00 PDT (13:00:14:00 EDT).
