GET READY FOR THE LARGEST IPSA WORLD CONGRESS!
 
The countdown to the 2023 IPSA World Congress in Buenos Aires is on and there are only five days left. We are thrilled to announce that the 2023 edition will mark a historic milestone for IPSA, as it will be welcoming the highest number of delegates since the association’s inception 74 years ago! The event will bring together over 3,000 registered scholars, researchers, professionals and students from over 100 countries to discuss the theme of Politics in the Age of Transboundary Crises. The Congress will feature over 2,800 paper presentations in 650 panels, covering a wide range of topics and perspectives in the field of political science.
 
Participants will also have the opportunity to network with 20 international exhibitors, including publishers, associations, universities, government organizations, and technology companies, who will showcase their recent publications, products and services.
 
We look forward to welcoming you to the 2023 IPSA World Congress, where you will find a rich program prepared by IPSA World Congress Program Co-chairs Euiyoung Kim (Seoul National University) and Theresa Reidy (University College Cork) and experience a historic and memorable event.

THE LAUNCH OF THE GUILLERMO O'DONNELL AWARD AND SPECIAL SESSION 
 
The IPSA Guillermo O’Donnell Award for Latin-American Scholars will be launched at the 2023 IPSA World Congress and two events will be organized on 16 July to pay tribute to the remarkable legacy of Guillermo O’Donnell, IPSA Past President and one of Latin America’s most prominent political scientists.
 
The first event, Guillermo O’Donnell Award Launch and Lecture, will be chaired by IPSA Executive Director Kim Fontaine-Skronski and feature a lecture by Prof. Terry L. Karl, the recipient of the 2023 LASA Guillermo O'Donnell Democracy Award.
 
The second session, Revisiting O'Donnell in an Era of Democratic Backsliding, will be chaired by Prof. Gabriela Ippolito-O'Donnell and bring together eminent scholars who have been inspired by Guillermo O'Donnell's research and who have also made important contributions to the field of political science.
 
IPSA WORLD CONGRESS TO FEATURE EXCLUSIVE CAFÉ SESSIONS FOR STUDENTS AND EARLY-CAREER SCHOLARS
 
The 2023 IPSA World Congress will offer two special sessions for students and early-career scholars interested in learning more about the expectations and challenges inherent in an academic career.

The “Early-Career” Mentoring Café session will give delegates the opportunity to discuss various aspects of a career in academia with senior colleagues. Participants will learn more about how to secure research funding, manage grants, publish and teach. The session will be chaired by IPSA Vice President Hasret Dikici Bilgin and will feature IPSA President-Elect Pablo Oñate, and IPSA Executive members Irasema Coronado and Keiichi Kubo.

The Editors’ Café session will allow IPSA World Congress participants to meet and talk with the co-editors of IPSA’s flagship journal, the International Political Science Review. Co-editors Theresa Reidy, Daniel Stockemer and Annika Hinze will be available to advise students and early-career scholars alike on a range of topics, not least the academic publishing process.
 
HOW POPULISM AFFECTS DEMOCRACY:
IPSA PRESIDENT-ELECT PABLO OÑATE AND EC MEMBER AZUL A. AGUIAR AGUILAR JOIN AMECIP'S POLITICAL ELECTORAL SCHOOL
 
The Mexican Political Science Association (AMECIP) successfully presented its 7th Political Electoral School on Populism and the Erosion of Democracy in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, from 2-3 June 2023. The event featured prominent speakers, including IPSA President-Elect Pablo Oñate, IPSA Executive Committee member Azul A. Aguiar Aguilar, and AMECIP President Jesús Tovar Mendoza.
 
Participants engaged in insightful panel discussions and academic presentations exploring various dimensions of populism and its impact on democratic institutions. Topics ranged from the historical context and emergence of populism to its manifestations in different regions and the erosion of democratic norms.
 
IPSA EXPANDS ITS SUMMER SCHOOL PROGRAM IN 2024: 
POLAND AND BOSNIA AND HERZEGOVINA
 
IPSA will launch two new Summer Schools in 2024 in cooperation with renowned European academic institutions. These additions to the IPSA Summer School program will provide unique and valuable academic opportunities for students and scholars interested in political science. IPSA’s Summer Schools Coordinator, Óscar Luengo, has been actively involved in these exciting new additions. Poland’s Adam Mickiewicz University will host the IPSA-Poznań Summer School for Methods in Political Science, New Media and Communication Research. The same university, located in Poznań, successfully hosted the 2016 IPSA World Congress. The Mostar Summer School in Bosnia and Herzegovina will be held in cooperation with the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Mostar.
 
IPSAMOOCS NOW AVAILABLE ON COURSERA
 
We are pleased to announce that a new and revised version of the IPSAMOOCs program is now available on Coursera, the world's leading MOOC platform, with over 120 million learners worldwide. This new development follows the tremendous success of the XSeries program in English and Spanish, which has attracted over 96,000 enrollments from 190 countries. The first IPSAMOOCs are already available on Coursera, with more to come in the near future. Current courses include the following:
 
  • Understanding Political Concepts; 
  • Comparative Political Systems;
  • Comparative Research Designs and Methods;
  • Global Politics;
  • Introduccion à la teoria politica.
 
IPSAMOOCs will continue to be available on the edX platform, but the new release on Coursera will provide an opportunity to bring the courses to new audiences and spark new training projects.
