The 2007 Johan Skytte Prize in Political Science Goes to Professor Theda Skocpol The Skytte Foundation at Sweden’s Uppsala University has awarded the 2007 Johan Skytte Prize in Political Science to Professor Theda Skocpol of Harvard University. Professor Skocpol captures the prize—among the most prestigious in the discipline—for her “visionary analysis of the significance of the state for revolutions, welfare and political trust, pursued with theoretical depth and empirical evidence.” This year’s prize is 500,000 Swedish Crowns, approximately US$70,000. The conference reflects the Council’s commitment to promote a critical re-thinking of all facets of socio-economic development in Africa; it is also meant to honour the memory of the late Professor Guy Mhone, one of the continent’s most distinguished development thinkers and a former member of the CODESRIA Executive Committee.
