Call for papers

The Chair of European Studies (University of Wroclaw) is pleased to announce the International Conference, on "Regional dimension of European Labour Market”, which will take place on October 22-23, 2013, at the University of Wroclaw (Poland).

THE AIM OF THE CONFERENCE:

Faced with the challenges of globalisation, technological progress and demographic ageing, solutions for European labour markets remain as valid and necessary. The weakness of economic growth and jobs creation in Europe needs to be addressed. It is also essential that the benefits of economic growth spread to all parts of the Union, including its outermost regions, thus strengthening territorial cohesion. It is about ensuring access and opportunities for all throughout the lifecycle. Europe needs to make full use of its labour potential to face the challenges of an ageing population and rising global competition. Promotion of gender equality policies will be needed to increase labour force participation thus adding to growth and social cohesion.

Many aspects and complexity of the problem can distinguish several groups of questions, corresponding to the problem areas, which are addressed in the framework of the EU Strategy "Europe 2020". It is about empowering people through high levels of employment, investing in skills, fighting poverty and modernising labour markets, training and social protection systems so as to build a cohesive society and a competitive economy.

In order to contribute to enhancing the impact of the European social dialogue, the Chair of European Studies is organizing international conference on the key challenges facing Europe’s labour markets.
