The Institute of Public Goods and Policies (IPP) of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) offers a research contract in the field of science and innovation studies.

The successful candidate will take part in the project “Organization and policies of promotion in the context of academic careers

The work to be developed, together with other members of the research team, involves the systematic analysis of the organization and policy of academic promotion. The project will characterize existing promotion systems across universities in Europe and in the US; provide empirical evidence on the performance of these different systems, in particular, the Spanish university system; will make a retrospective qualitative analysis of the rationales and factors underlying policy reforms; will analyze how promotion, as an incentive mechanism, affects individuals’ research output. Both habilitation and accreditation systems and formal procedures (tournament examination, etc.) will be analyzed. This project aims to contribute to current knowledge on the role of promotion systems for institutions’ and in stimulating national research excellence.

The current project funding runs until December 2015. The regulated salary is 26,700 Euros gross per year (approx. 1,900 euros per month in 14 monthly salaries). The position is open for European Union nationals and non-EU nationals.

Candidates should hold a degree in Economics or related Science and Innovation Studies (preference an advanced degree such a Master’s or PhD), with substantial knowledge of Statistics. Research experience, publication record and data management skills will be considered as an advantage.
