Associate Professorship (or Professorship) in Quantitative Political Sociology

Total salary £64-79k (University Grade 10a £43,745 - £58,739 p.a. + £20,545 pensionable College Allowance)

The Department of Sociology proposes to appoint an Associate Professor in Quantitative Political Sociology. This full-time, permanent post, based in the Department of Sociology, Oxford, is available from 1 July 2014, or as soon as possible thereafter. The appointment will be made in association with a Non-Tutorial Fellowship at Nuffield College.

The successful candidate will be expected to carry out high quality research that uses advanced quantitative methods to address substantive topics in the field of political sociology and should be able to play a leading role in the development and delivery of quantitative methods training within the department’s undergraduate programmes. This appointment forms a key part of the creation of the Q-Step Centre in Social Sciences at Oxford, which is funded by the Nuffield Foundation, the Economic and Social Research Council and the Higher Education Funding Council for England to achieve a step change in quantitative social science training.

The successful candidate will hold a doctorate in a relevant subject area, and will have a strong record of research at an international level. The ability to provide excellent class and tutorial teaching to high-achieving and challenging students and supervision of gradúate students for the department is essential. The postholder will require good communication, interpersonal and organisational skills. A record of success in securing research funding is also desirable.
