We are seeking a dynamic, mid-career, established scholar of diplomatic studies with a commitment to excellence in teaching, who is keen to become an intellectual leader in DePaul's Grace School of Applied Diplomacy. A PhD should be in hand by September 1, 2024. The Grace School's transprofessional approach to the study and practice of diplomacy places a premium on understanding and promoting cooperation and coordination among practitioners of state-sponsored, non-state actor and grassroots diplomacy. Its faculty includes members from twenty-six different departments, programs and colleges across the University. As such, successful candidates for this position should have an established record of engaging the subject of diplomacy in a highly interdisciplinary manner and have some expertise in state-sponsored, non-state actor and grassroots diplomatic practices.
Qualifications
The Grace School is situated in the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences and offers both BA and MA programs in Applied Diplomacy. It places a premium on promoting collaboration among practitioners of diplomacy in multiple contexts, and as such, its curriculum is designed to prepare students to practice diplomacy not only as foreign service officers, but also as businesspeople, scientists, NGO representatives, religious leaders, international civil servants, community organizers, artists, educators, and grass roots activists. The faculty of The Grace School represent twenty-six different departments and programs from across the University. The School is located in Chicago, a globally-engaged city that is home to a rich array of consulates, artistic institutions and international organizations. Candidates will find an enriching and innovative climate at DePaul, with institutional support for cross-disciplinary, inter-departmental, and community-engaged collaboration. Faculty teach on a 10-week quarter system and draw on resources and cultivate partnerships through DePaul's centers, institutes, departments, schools and programs. Our students benefit from robust study abroad and global learning exchange programs.
DePaul is deeply sensitive to the educational goals of a culturally diverse student population and committed to diversity and equality in education and employment. We seek candidates who will reflect and engage the diversity of the university and its urban community. We strongly encourage applications from people of color, women, and individuals from other historically underrepresented groups.
